MRI Safe Monitor/Screen for 3T & 7T

BOLDscreen 32 LCD for fMRI

Designed for 60 and 70cm bores, the premium 32" 1920x1080 widescreen LCD display features up to 16-bit RGB colour control, 1400:1 contrast ratio and 120Hz panel drive.

Our BOLDscreen monitors are the only "MRI Compatible" MR Safe displays with no time lag, integrated sensor for luminance calibration and, of course, no interference with the scanner, even when positioned right at the exit of the bore.

Specifications

Superior Image Quality

BOLDscreen 32 has a high-bandwidth, dual-link DVI input and can be driven just like the LCD monitor on your desk, with standard software tools. Simply run the provided 30m optical fibre cable through a waveguide and plug the DVI transmitter into your control room host computer, for high fidelity, noise-free displays.

We have designed BOLDscreen 32 with custom electronics which deliver your stimulus direct to the screen - the output is lag free and synchronous to the input video signal. Other "MRI Compatible" LCD displays designed for patient entertainment in MRI typically use TV technology and video scan conversion which deliberately interpolate the input, producing an image which may look easy on the eye, but is unsynchronised and smeared with respect to the input, and therefore of limited use for precision scientific applications.

The BOLDscreen 32 design incorporates a premium 32" 1920x1080 IPS LCD panel with native 10-bit RGB colour resolution and a stunning static contrast ratio of 1400:1 (measured with the backlight on; [1 1 1]:[0 0 0] RGB contrast ratio). The panel features 120Hz panel drive capability, and a fast 5ms grey-to-grey response time. The dual-link DVI input will synchronise to a 1920x1080 @ 120Hz video signal and will output video at the same rate.

To achieve the image quality required for scientific visual stimulation, we illuminate the panel with a custom LED backlight. This produces highly saturated chromatic displays and a peak white output at up to 350cd.m-2 (other calibrated white settings are simple to set in the device configuration file). We have also incorporated a sensor for real-time calibration that ensures consistent luminance immediately from switch on, and automatically compensates for the usual drifts in brightness due to temperature changes and ageing.

Unlike other "MRI Compatible" displays, with BOLDscreen 32, what you put in is what you get out!

Display Characteristics

  • 32” 1920 x 1080 full colour IPS LCD with 120Hz panel drive.
  • Native 10-bit colour resolution.
  • Light output is synchronous to the input video signal.
  • Digital DVI video input delivers high delity noise-free displays.
  • Custom scanning LED backlight, peak white up to 350cd.m-2
  • Static contrast ratio of 1400:1 (measured with the backlight on; [1 1 1]:[0 0 0] RGB contrast ratio)
  • Typical grey-to-grey response time 5ms.
  • Automatic compensation of brightness for temperature and ageing.
  • Image can be flipped to correct for viewing via a mirror.

Easy to install & Integrate

The 32" LCD display is designed to provide maximum field of view when sited at the rear of a 70cm bore and viewed via headcoil mounted mirrors. The image can be automatically left-right flipped, to cancel the flip caused by the mirror. The low voltage DC power supply is installed through the penetration panel, and the fibre optic DVI video input passes through the waveguide, to your computer in the control room.

An adjustable tripod is supplied as standard, and other styles of stand are available, or VESA compatible mounting points enable fixed installation on the wall of the scanner room.

BOLDscreen can be used in conjunction with equipment form various other manufacturers, and integrates neatly with our eyetracker, audio system, response boxes and other Made for fMRI accessories.

Testimonials

The Department of Neurology at the Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf has a 3T Siemens Skyra

"BOLDscreen performs exceptionally and was very easy to configure. The image is bright, clear and visibly excellent. A definite must-have for our studies! We will recommend it to other groups."

The NeuroImaging Center at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen has a 3T Philips Intera

"BOLDscreen provides an absolutely fabulous image and our testing shows no artefacts whatsoever."

The Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre at the University of Melbourne has a 3T GE Signa

"We are using the BOLDscreen and it is going well. We installed it at the head of the scanner. There is a gap of a metre or so between the bore opening and the head of the scanner bed (and screen), but we have a full field of view."

The Durham University Neuroimaging Centre have a 3T Siemens TIM Trio

"We've got the standard BOLDscreen connected to ViSaGe and are very happy with it so far. We've had a difficult time trying to calibrate projectors in MRI labs in the past, but this system is good. We just calibrated BOLDscreen by moving it into the control room, still connected as normal to the ViSaGe, using a CRS ColorCAL and then checking with a Minolta CS100. It was straightforward to adjust the overall luminance level which is helpful for calibration."
